Jason comes through the thinning line of constructs at a run, one gun still raised as he checks the alley and then the body at Roy’s feet.
“I could fucking kiss you,” he exclaims, as he slows to a stop. “That was insane!”
Roy hooks a hand into the front of his boyfriend’s armor and pulls him close enough that their heads nearly knock together.
“Save it for later,” he teases, pushing a flat palm against Jason’s chest to send him a few feet back.

Summary
It truly is a mockery of it all, cruel irony or a cosmic joke. Call it whatever it doesn't seem to leave a good taste in his mouth. And isn't it on him, who put him in that position. All his talks about steeling oneself against what they come across every night remain mere words in the face of this. In front of a child who saw his mother in a woman he could not save. Subconsciously, Bruce tightened his grip on Jason's hand, thumb rubbing circles on the skin under his index. Hands so small, hands which held a dying woman's face with gentle precision when he had delivered steady breaths.

A routine patrol that goes awry, in the most unexpected of ways, brings Jason to the forefront of his traumas. Bruce and his promise persists but the protocol is tested when even the safety hold doesn't work like it should have.

Dick and Jason end up in New York. They don't know how. One moment they were in Gotham, the next they weren't.
Hopes of an easy call to Babs or Tim are dashed by buildings they've never seen before, food they [unfortunately] can't take home with them, and vigilantes they don't recognize.
First order of business is to figure out when or where they are. What comes after that can only be an adventure worth bragging rights.
