Every morning, Kya reminds herself of the list of things she knows. It’s not a very long list.
Her name is Kya of the Southern Water Tribe. Wife to Hakoda of the Southern Water Tribe. Friend to Bato, Iyek, and Kyu of the Southern Water Tribe. Mother to Sokka and Katara, the last waterbender in the South Pole. Unbeknownst to her captors, Kya has traded her freedom and her dignity for her daughter’s life. Kya has spent five years in six different Fire Nation prisons and eleven different cells. Kya is, presently, at the Boiling Rock prison, which is muggy and uncomfortable and surrounded by a lake of scalding-hot water. Kya highly suspects they’ve forgotten that she’s supposed to be a waterbender.
Kya’s well aware of the situational irony.

And it hurts.
Roy didn’t need Ed to say what he couldn’t say, he could see in the redness around the port and the confused pained twitching of Ed’s face.
I don’t know why we’re all writing automail-science-fluff, but hey, I ain’t complaining.

Summary
“Why are you helping?” The rasped words are almost too quiet to hear.
Roy pauses, considering the boy before him. Ed is in obvious pain, white as a sheet and trembling, exhausted to the bone. He’d probably dissociated all day in that musty library without even realizing it. Probably convinced himself he was working.
From what Roy had seen, half of Ed’s notes were just mindless words, barely strung into coherent, inky sentences.
