Vecna was trying to destroy the world, El was being hunted by the government, and her boyfriend (whom she was having more and more troubles with) was living in her basement.
Her and Jonathan were…Complicated. It’s not like she didn’t love him, quite the opposite actually. She really did, but he had been distant ever since he moved to Lenora.
Nancy can’t say that it was all his fault though. She hadn’t been reaching out much either, and everyone knew Jonathan didn’t start a conversation.
They were doing fine.

Nancy's wearing a dress today. It's pale blue and the material looks soft. It compliments her eyes. She looks pretty, but he doesn't say that because friends don't say that. He wonders if she's cold. If he should offer her his jacket. Then he rationalizes that friends don't do that either.
It's complicated, being her friend. A part of him thinks it beats the alternative, that he should be grateful for these small moments but then she'll do something too intimate and he'll retreat until he remembers how much he hates being away from her. It's like a sick and twisted version of hide and seek.
