"Didn't think you'd reach out again," Frank says after a long silence, his voice rougher than it was minutes ago.
"Honestly, I didn't either."
"What changed?"
Matt parts his lips, ready to offer some excuse, but in the end he only shrugs. "I don't know. Maybe I'm feeling nostalgic."
"And in your moment of nostalgia, you chose to call me of all people." It's not a question, though it comes out quieter than usual. Matt shrugs again, even if Frank can't see it.
"Who else could it be?" Matt lets out a smile, a small thing edged with bitterness and faint self-mockery.
(Or, since he was nine years old, Matt has learned to let go. Some things are easier; others not so much.)
