It started with a scarf, and it continued with lunch, once he didn't buy himself one.
Those observant lilac gold eyes noticed his fidgety behavior as he felt his stomach twist and turn, due to the lack of nutrition he put himself through because he didn't feel like going to the bakery to grab anything during their break.
And that small orphan boy who almost starved to death came up to him now and gave him a half of his sandwich.
The action made him feel fuller than the food.
"Dazai-san…" He heard Atsushi mumble, from behind him, as they trailed back home, on a friday, late evening.
"Mhm?" The brunet hummed lazily, sparing a single glance towards the somewhat fidgety boy, wondering what got his panties up in a twist.
"I…I know you don't celebrate, and Kunikida-san told me that you hate being reminded of it, but," Atsushi began, making him blink. Celebrate what, exactly? "I got you something. You can throw it away, or just consider it a random gift, but…" The tiger continued to ramble nervously, as he finally found the small wrapped gift that made Osamu pause.
Oh.
His birthday. That was today.
