Summary
"Okay." Ilya takes a deep breath, letting it out. He lays down, resting his head on a pillow, and lays the phone on his diaphragm after he puts it on speaker. He hums, thinking. "Do you like chai actually? Or your, uh— friend, he decides for you?"
There's a long, long silence after that. Ilya swallows, hoping he hadn't asked the wrong thing. He went on a limb, in a way, because that's what Ilya always does. He assumes things, and butts in where he probably shouldn't and gives boys who look like they're emotionally one foot in the grave notes with his number on it. For some reason.
"No, he doesn’t." Shane says, eventually, and all Ilya's muscles un-tense. "I do really like chai. Caramel chai, mostly, if wherever I go has it."
"This can be arranged." Ilya says, his hands behind his head. "I am very good barista."
Shane snorts, then. Ilya makes it his goal to get him to laugh, and he'd say he's making pretty good progress so far.
Or, Shane is in a severely abusive relationship with his boyfriend, Ash. When they visit a nearby café one day, their server, Ilya, realizes something isn’t quite right between them.
Ilya can’t help but try and do something about it.

Summary
"She's so eager. What would we ever do without her?" Shane asks, a small smile of his own pulling at his lips. Ilya hadn't even taken the pills yet, but he's starting to feel like maybe the air he's breathing isn't as stifling as he thought it was in the bedroom. There's sunlight pouring in from a window over the kitchen table, and a hockey game playing in the background on their flatscreen TV. His sweetheart is there, smelling like his bourbon vanilla body wash and that sexy cologne Ilya forgets the name of. He feels his appetite growing, which is probably a good sign.
Anya— with her tasks completed— runs to the living room to play with the copious amount of toys Ilya and Shane have spoiled her with. Ilya watches her, knowing if he had stayed in bed, he'd be feeling a lot different right now. Today, he supposes he's slightly glad he let her pull him out of it.
Or, two times Anya (who is trained to be Ilya’s psychological service dog) assists Ilya by performing tasks to mitigate the symptoms of his depression, and the one time she ends up being there to help calm down Shane, too.

Summary
Ilya falls back into his chair, realizing that it's very possible his daughter gets all her dramatics from him.
"Let's just focus on the main principal here, yeah?" Shane leans his elbows on the table, pinching at the bridge of his nose.
"Yes. Principal." Ilya says, rather confidently. Then he puts a hand up to hide Sophie's view of his mouth, leaning forward to whisper to Shane. "Who is 'principal'?"
Shane rolls his eyes so hard it looks like it hurts.
"He means that me stealing is bad." Sophie explains casually.
"Ah." Ilya sits back. "Yes. Is very, very bad. Bad Sonya. You are very grounded."
"I figured." Sophie sighs, wilting anyway.

Summary
The club is like one big entity, pulsing and alive and intense. Shane recalls the bleached hair of the woman who was dancing up on Ilya— his love, the man he loves, the man he ran away from— and the way he looked at Shane while it was happening. Ilya didn't look happy. He looked painfully resentful, if anything. The color of the lights flashing across Ilya's pale skin and his classic, hardened, slavic stare; the one that intimidated most people, but made Shane weak in the knees. The way his shirt hugged his muscles (his biceps, specifically), and the way Shane loved to bite into them while Ilya folded him into positions Shane didn't even know he was flexible enough to do—
Fuck.
Then, Shane recalls the pain in Ilya's striking, pleading cerulean eyes. The pain that Shane had put there, and then left him behind with.
Or,
Ilya feels helpless to the love that Shane denies him. Somewhere in Montreal at a night club, Ilya ends up losing his autonomy, and almost loses his life along with it. -

"I am going to teach you another word." Shane can't look away from him, entranced. He could not possibly be more unprepared to be learning new Russian words than he is right now, but that's probably the point.
"Harder." Ilya says, never stopping. "Sil'neye."
Fuck. This one was a bit easier, at least. Shane's tongue seemed to know what to do with the sounds of it quicker.
"Sil'neye." Shane breathes, holding Ilya's gaze. They suddenly gleam with satisfaction, or maybe adoration. Shane is obsessed with him, with this, with all of it.
"Yes, good boy." Ilya praises.
Or,
Ilya has a bad day at work, so Shane comes up with a plan to take his mind off things. Ilya was not bluffing when he said he’d teach Shane his version of “important” words in Russian.

Luca glanced sideways at Boodram, who was frozen with one arm in his jacket. It truly would have been hilarious, the way they all watched this scene unfold like a car crash, if it didn’t also feel like one.
They shared a confused glance, turning back when Rozanov’s incredulous “A ride?” rang through the locker room.
“Yeah, I, uh, figured I could use one since I just…quit the Metros,” Hollander said slowly, heaving an exhausted sigh afterwards.
In which Shane Hollander overhears his teammates talking about him before a game and ends up in the Centaurs' locker room, asking Ilya Rozanov for a ride.
