In the last month before the Extermination, Angel takes on new risks to protect what he’s gained over the previous five. Building a relationship with Husk, an unexpected decline in his relationship with Val, his friendship with Cherri Bomb transforming, and somehow a deepening connection with Vaggie - all hold so much of his focus that with Heaven's threat looming above them all, Alastor's obsession with freeing Angel from Valentino barely distracts him.
Since Alastor does his best work behind the scenes, it might be too late by the time Angel wises up.

“You wouldn’t fuck that?” Husk shoos the table person away and deals out their cards. “Poker?”
“No. And yes.” Vox starts shaking his leg again as he looks at his cards. He was both impossible to read and easy to read all at once. His emotions were always obvious on his face, but Husk was familiar enough with how much his mind raced to know better than to guess what caused those emotions. He could be looking upset because his hand was awful or because his mind was wandering to something disappointing he'd eaten for dinner. He'd learned to not try to read him by now.

The sight filled Husk’s mouth with saliva, threatening to have him drool. “Everyone thinks they’re tits! But they ain’t, and I don’t want you gettin’ misled.”
“Just fluff?" Husk said, his building lust roughly cracking his voice.
Angel bit his bottom lip, his eyes going half lidded. “Why don’tcha check? See if you can make a liar outta me?”
Husk knocked back the rest of his whiskey.

“Uh… if the power goes out, don’t panic.” Vox glanced over his shoulder. Husk’s ears swiveled back. “Really. I’ve got this under control – a few outages are an entirely normal part of the process.”
“Power outages are never a normal part of the process, Vox.” Husk summoned a bit of magic, just in case one of the creepies residing in Alastor’s house decided to make a move. “Just try not to electrocute me, okay?”
Vox nodded, paused, and scooped up a welding helmet from the table. With a hum, he fastened it over his head.
“Want to know the great thing about being made of electricity or electricity magic or whatever the fuck it is I am?” Husk shook his head, knowing full well Vox couldn’t see him. “I don’t even need gloves for this kind of shit.”
He reached into the panel. It sparked twice. The machine let out a weird grinding groan and, after the lights in the room flickered appropriately, the power went out. Leaving only Vox’s face for light.
“Normal part of the process,” he muttered to himself behind the helmet.
Husk sighed.

Summary
Angel and Husk are separated.
Husk drowns himself in alcohol, becomes distant and bitter. What's even the point in staying sober, anyway? It's not like there's anyone left he'd like to pour a drink or two for. Sure, there are new guests, lots of them, actually, but Husk was way happier with only one.
Alastor notices that he's sad. Husk might have a good poker face, but in the end it's Alastor who won his soul in a card game. Alastor is also the one who doesn't like his bartender to sit around and wail all day.
Meanwhile, Angel desperately tries to keep himself together. He knows he can't think about Husk, not now, maybe not ever. If he did, he'd just fall apart on the spot. But the memories of gold and honey, good memories, so gentle, so sweet, don't seem to get the memo. They force themselves back into Angel's mind, and Angel is so tired of fighting them.
Valentino's been a bit down lately, and there's nothing better than a good whore to cheer him up.
