Summary
Eddie is laid out on the floor of a hospital elevator, pressing his soaked t-shirt into a still bleeding wound, and he doesn’t know if the light is real.
It’s true what they say about dying. There is some sort of ethereal light that beckons you towards it. Eddie has seen it more than once. The light is bright and warm, and every time Eddie sees it, he runs in the other direction.
Eddie has nothing but time as he bleeds out on the floor of the hospital elevator. (918 coda)

Summary
For the past three Valentine’s Days, Eddie and Buck have been trading off taking their daughter on a date instead of each other. They celebrate together when they have time, happy to show their affections through little gestures and gifts rather than a big, planned out evening. Because this is so much better.
The idea had been Eddie’s. When Isabella was two, Buck had been distraught over the idea of leaving her with Tia Pepa while he and Eddie went out to dinner. So much so that they’d almost skipped it altogether (until they’d been forced out the door and instructed to “spend some alone time together or else”—Eddie knew better than to argue). Later that night, with Buck fast asleep next to him, Eddie came up with the brilliant plan of organizing a date for Buck and Bella the following Valentine’s Day.
For Valentine's Day, Buck and Eddie trade off taking their daughter on dates :)

Summary
In a fit of insanity, or jealousy, or maybe he’s just thinking with his dick, Eddie takes off his own hat, grabs Buck’s, then puts Buck’s on. His eyes flit around the room, and most people seem to turn away after that. There. Settled.
“What’s that about?” Buck asks.
“You wanna be a cowboy but you don’t know the hat rule?”
“No.” Buck crosses his arms and tosses Eddie a lopsided smile. “Tell me the rule.”
Sometimes you see your best friend ride a mechanical bull in his stupid mirrorball cowboy hat and the dam breaks. Sometimes you go to Nashville and have to tell your best friend you’re in love with him.

“Check it out.”
“Why me?!” Buck stares at Eddie, projecting indignance as much as he can through the darkness.
“Big, strong men check out scary noises,” Eddie reasons, still only half-conscious. He wraps himself around Buck’s bicep and drops his head to Buck’s shoulder.
“You’re just as big and strong as I am.”
Eddie shakes his head. “Two inches and twenty pounds. You go, I need my beauty sleep,” he says, lying back down.
The Buckley-Diaz family deal with a(n adorable) home intruder.

“Dad?”
“Yeah?”
“Can you stop being such a loser?”
He blinks a few times and turns to look at his son with raised eyebrows. Chris, who is wholly unimpressed, eyes him with practiced teenage irritation.
“Excuse me?” Eddie asks.
“You look so mad that Buck is talking to Tia Sofia.”
“I’m not mad,” Eddie insists. “I’m fine. I’m eating my churro.”
Everyone in the Diaz family loves Buck, but Eddie misses being the center of Buck's attention. He is super normal and subtle about it and Chris is soooo wrong to call him a loser. For sure. Definitely.

“Who the hell is Evan?” Buck asks.
“Ummmmm, you?” Eddie draws in his bottom lip as a giggle makes an attempt at freedom. Doing this while wine-tipsy is making it significantly more difficult. “That’s your name.”
“That’s not my name to you.”
“That’s the name on our marriage license.”
What if you were GAY and at WINE NIGHT and you called your husband his LEGAL NAME to win MONEY… Eddie Diaz can relate.

“You miss me that bad that you needed to pretend you wanted ice?” Eddie asks.
Buck is leaning against the ice machine and balancing the bucket on his hip. “Yeah, because this little clandestine meeting was my idea.”
“I’m just making sure my water is cold. You want me to drink warm water?”
“Far be it from me to deny Eddie Diaz anything he wants.”
Buck and Eddie end up at a motel on their drive back from Nashville and spill all their romantic secrets.

“It’s not even your fault, if you think about it,” Eddie says, pressing a kiss to Buck’s curls and rubbing his back.
Buck grumbles something unintelligible in response, shifting where he’s thrown himself on top of Eddie.
Intramural sports days between fire departments were supposed to be fun. They’re good for morale, they bond the squad, and they’re a nice way to blow off some steam.
Unless you’re Evan Buckley.
Buck loses a relay at the fire department's intramural sports day, and Eddie makes sure his husband knows he's still a winner. Or, more simply, Buck wants attention, and Eddie gives it to him :)

Summary
Somehow, Buck has Eddie’s lip print on his cheek. Eddie has marked Buck as taken and his, and oh. This is what Buck wants. He can’t walk around with a hickey on his neck, no matter how much he wants to (and god does he want to). But this could scratch the itch, allow Buck to feel claimed, to feel like Eddie’s being a little possessive, while maintaining secrecy. He can wipe off the lip balm where Eddie’s lips branded him and pretend like they’re best friends and nothing more.
Honestly? It’s so hot.
or, Buck wants to be marked by Eddie so badly; Eddie obliges with lip balm, lipstick, and hickeys. They fuck about it.

“I would never fire you.”
“Why not?” Eddie folds his arms and quirks an eyebrow. “What about the chain of comm—”
“If you say chain of command, I will crash the car,” Buck interjects.

The end of the night had gone something like:
“So… yeah?” Buck asked, blushing furiously and holding both of Eddie’s hands as he lingered near the front door.
“Yeah. Definitely,” Eddie answered, flushing a somehow darker shade of red than Buck.
And, okay, Eddie knows that’s not exactly a conversation, but it’s as good as! So he and Buck are… something. But it’s nearly twenty-four hours later, and they still haven’t kissed.
Five times Buck doesn't kiss Eddie under the mistletoe, and one time he does.
