Summary
When Zuko and their daughter are captured by the leader of the New Ozai Society, it's up to Katara to bring her family home. Two weeks later, she finally finds them, but at a cost. Though the worst is behind them, the scars remain, and Zuko's spirit is on the verge of breaking as old ghosts and new enemies threaten to destroy the life he'd fought so hard to build. While he struggles to navigate the aftermath of his captivity, Katara finds herself doing everything in her power to remind Zuko that healing is not a burden he has to carry alone.

Zuko can't believe this is happening. Surely the universe is testing him. He's been in love with Katara since he was a teenager. Now, she's shown up to his home, seeking a place to stay post-breakup. Were this a drama, Zuko would bring her to his favorite courtyard and say, Forget about the Avatar, marry me instead. And she'd agree and fall into his arms and he'd kiss her senseless and finally learn the taste of her mouth. They'd have beautiful, blue-eyed children that Zuko would never be an asshole to, and live happily ever after.
However, that would probably cause a diplomatic incident. Also, he doubts she returns his feelings.
So there's that.

Zuko smiles at her again. It’s a bright, shiny, wonderful thing that makes his eyes twinkle. A child of Agni, as his people would say; one who shall light the way by the sheer force of his grin alone.
Ridiculous. Absurd. Beautiful. Katara has to squash the brief, incessant urge to freeze the rice and dab the starchy ice against her searing face.
“Okay,” he replies, and he just keeps looking at her, chopsticks hanging limp from his fingers. “We’re a team, Katara. It’s as simple as that.”Katara likes Zuko.

Katara laughs.
“You can’t dance, Zuko,” she says, brushing her hands together as she finishes off the last of her snack.
“Correction,” Zuko says, already pulling Katara towards him and placing a hand on her waist. “You can’t. I can. You weren’t here for it, but Aang made it a point to bring dancing back to the Fire Nation a few years ago.” Zuko winks at her before grasping her hand in his. “Said I was a natural.”
Katara lets out an unlady-like snort and they share a knowing look. Neither of them mention the Dancing Dragon.
(Or, during the Summer Solstice Festival in the Fire Nation, Iroh watches as the young Fire Lord and Southern Waterbender discover just who they are to each other. A crab cake, a dance, and a three word confession - it's always the little things that hold the most power, isn't it)?
