Summary
Hob is learning to manipulate his form in the Dreaming. After several spectacular failures involving tentacle fingers and radioactive pink hair, he decides to get creative. Inspired by Dream's effortless shapeshifting, Hob attempts to change his sex. He succeeds. Sort of. From the waist down.
Naturally, he calls his lover over to show off.
Dream looked up then, his gaze travelling the long way up Hob's body to meet his eyes. A strange, almost proud smile touched his lips.
"You did indeed do a good job," Dream said, his voice a low, resonant murmur that vibrated in the quiet space between them. "It is a very pretty cunt."

Then Ilya sighed. Shane looked him up and down once in quick succession. He couldn’t quite read his expression.
“What?”
“I think I am…” Ilya pursed his lips “...jealous?”
“You’re jealous?” Shane raised his eyebrows. “Of an inanimate object?”
“What is…”
“It means like,” he sighed, grateful to get the attention shifted off himself, if only for a second, “it’s just a thing.”
“Then why so many words when you could just say thing?” Ilya’s accent clipped over the digraph as he rushed to the end of the sentence.
“It’s just two words. And it’s about specifying-”
“Anyway,” Ilya shook his head, deflecting Shane’s rambling. “Yes. I am jealous of the thing.”
“You’re ridiculous.”

Summary
The thing is ugly. It’s roundish and bumpy and its spines are black and irregular. The more Hob looks at it, the more he’s impressed by how truly horrid it looks.
He reaches out and picks it up, careful to not hurt himself with the damn spines. “Perfect,” he murmurs to himself.
“Excellent find,” a deep and beautiful voice says, making him almost jump. “You have chosen a magnificent specimen.”

Or, Hob is set on finding the ugliest gift for the head of his department and things (don't) go as planned.

Through demonstrations of commitment, loyalty and devotion, through the passing of near-impossible tests. Suffice it to say, it rarely happened. But what happens when, after time has passed, and some things have turned into myth, while others have been fully forgotten, a Suitor rises (one who doesn’t even know he’s one?!)?

"Uh-oh," Delirium says. Dream studies the car, the white smoke billowing out from beneath the bonnet, listening to the alarming clunking noise that the engine is making.
On his hip, Orpheus, unusually solemn child that he is, gazes soulfully at the car.
"Caw boken," he declares.
Divorced novelist and aging goth Dream Nickson agrees to accompany his sister Delirium on a cross-country journey to Greece, partially to seek out their estranged brother and partially to deliver his son, Orpheus, back to his waiting mother. When their car breaks down before they've even managed to leave England they receive unexpected help from hobby farmer Hob Gadling, whose cheer and kindness mask tragedies of his own.
Trapped by mechanical failure and a sudden storm, Dream now must deal with his trauma, his past, and feelings he'd thought he would never experience again, all in the course of a single day and night spent with a handsome stranger.

Summary
"I am willing to...pay...rent," Dream says, each successive word loaded with more uncertainty, until his voice has actually risen on the word 'rent.' Not quite a question, but as near to it as Dream is likely to get in this situation, which is rapidly becoming desperately uncomfortable (for Dream) and confusing (for Hob).
"Do you know how money works?" is the first question that pops out of Hob's mouth.
After making an ill-advised bet with his sister, Dream of the Endless is rendered completely human for one year. In need of a place to stay he turns to Hob, unaware that his oldest friend has been holding a torch for him for the past several centuries. Human experiences! Living life to the fullest! Overcoming depression! Food trucks!
It's going to be a long year.

Summary
The explosion of flavors on Dream’s tongue makes him want to cry. He’d never experienced such an emotional reaction to food before Hob came into his life, but it makes sense, now. The love, care, and respect Hob put into his ingredients came through in the final product; it was palatable. It warmed Dream up when he hadn’t even been aware of how chilled he was. It tickled his senses and made him endlessly curious and full of awe of what Hob could create.
Dream wants to keep Hob forever.

He also could have never imagined how insane his life would get, once she’s in it. Then again, it’s not like he was exactly normal from the start, was he?

“What would you say to a field trip with me?” Hob suggests, regretting it even as he says it.
“Pardon?”
In for a penny, in for a pound.
“A field trip,” Hob repeats. “An outing. In the waking world. I have no idea if you’d like it or not, but… I think you might. It’s a place for dreamers.”
That last line hits its mark: That quirked brow paired with that careful squint means that Dream’s curiosity has been piqued. “What is the nature of this outing of dreamers?”
Fake it till you make it, right?
Hob grins brightly. “It’s called the Renaissance faire.”

This started as a goofy idea about how much Hob might love the Ren Faire, and then it spiraled into ~16k of hurt/comfort, friendship, and kinky sex. Don't ask me, I can't explain it, either.
