    Summary

It’s a little like seeing a ghost at first.

Just a flash of something that Troy’s not 100% sure is really there. Catching his attention from the corner of his eye and inviting him to look a little closer instead of continuing his victory lap. To focus his energy instead on confirming what he’s sure can’t really exist.

He only glances up into the stands again for half a second, but it’s long enough for the smile to instantly fall from his face, stomach churning and eyes dampening as he tries to blink the sight away.

Because Curtis Barrett is packed in amongst the Vancouver fans. Dressed head-to-toe in the merchandise of his son’s current opponents, expression cold and focused entirely on Troy, barely-contained fury evident on his face even as the pair finally make direct eye contact.

    -- or --

Troy's on a high as he and the Centaurs rally to defeat his hometown of Vancouver in a match that nobody thinks they can win. The celebrations are cut short, however, as the unwanted familiar face of Curtis Barrett arrives furious and ready for a fight.

One of the security guards, Remy, poked his head in. “Hey guys. I was told Troy was in here. I have a guy named Curtis who says he’s your father. Said you weren’t expecting him.”

The air was suddenly heavy. He heard the words, felt the impact, and then Troy felt himself nod without really thinking. His mind had gone blank but he distantly heard his voice speak.

    “Yeah, thanks. I got it.”

“You said Rozanov is a great captain,” one of the reporters says, deviating from the usual script. “What makes him one? Do you think he’s better than you?”

If Ilya was here, Shane would immediately answer with a negative. He would also let Ilya be the one to brag about his many, many accomplishments, and maybe banter with him about who’s got more.

    But Ilya’s not here.

    And Shane is bored.

    Or.
Shane spends a post game interview explaining that his husband is the best captain in the league and accidentally starts a hashtag.

    Summary

It hasn't been the easiest year for Ted. In fact, you might as well go ahead and call him Avicii, 'cause he's starting to wish he could just fall asleep and wait for some kind stranger to wake him up when it's all over. But he doesn't quit on things, so instead of doing that, he's moving to Richmond—the one in the U.K, not Kansas, because that would sorta defeat the whole purpose, wouldn't it—and hoping that clean slates really are all they're cracked up to be. That's it. A clean slate, and then he'll channel his inner Dorothy and return to Kansas a changed man.

But Ted ain't expecting Trent Crimm, the Independent, and his son Colin. Or Keeley Jones and her insistent, cute-as-a-button pursuit of friendship. Or the enigmatic Rebecca Welton, with her impeccable outfits and biting wit and intense doppio espressos.

Or, maybe most especially, Roy Kent and his little brother Jamie and the way their baggage just matches right up with his own.
