Summary
They never got to spend much time together, and when they did, Leon struggled to figure out where he stood. After decades of friendship—or something Leon considers friendship, at least—he’s still not entirely sure whether Chris likes him at all. He’s always had his back though, and that’s the important thing.
Leon is, unfortunately, easy like that. But, he also isn’t in the mood for Chris’s particular brand of Redfield judgement and tendency to open old wounds, especially not after the day he’s had.

“Oh, I’m so sick of you both,” Claire says, apropos of nothing.
Chris has to laugh, because if he doesn’t, he’ll explode. “Yeah,” he agrees, “I am too.”
It shouldn’t make any sense. It’s just him and Claire, sitting on his fire escape, her nose scrunched at him while he exhales smoke into her space. They had been silent up until she spoke, but he knows. “Can’t you just talk to him?” She pleads, pushing the hand holding his cigarette away from herself. She quit years ago. Chris still allows himself this one vice.
He thinks about it. He could. It isn’t like it’s never occurred to him. But he replies, “Nah. We’re not good together.”
Well. Maybe he allows himself more than one vice.

He has been coping just fine, thank you very much. Sure, he has chronic migraines, a worsening nicotine addiction, and a nonexistent appetite, but he’s fine. All Chris needs to worry about is supporting those he cares about. He’ll handle himself.

It starts at the grocery store, of all things. Leon is just minding his own business, browsing through the different options of rye bread as he tries to decide which one he’d like to try. Suddenly there are arms wrapped around him from behind, Chris’ warm body pressing so close to him that it’s probably a little too obvious at least judging by the long look one of the old women at the end of the aisle gives them.
“Chris?” Leon asks, even as he instinctively leans back against the other man, enjoying how he can always trust that Chris can easily hold him up. “What’s going on?” His voice almost breaks at the end of the question as Chris shifts his hips, presses his hardness against Leon’s butt, and practically growls low in his ear.
“If we weren’t in public right now,” Chris says, so low that only Leon can hear. His hot breath hits Leon’s ear, and Leon shudders helplessly already before Chris goes on. “I’d have my head between your legs.”

The plant tilts its head, oddly bird-like, and Leon reaches out a shaking hand to brush his fingertips against the woody curve of its coils. Every bulb in the room brightens in response, and suddenly, there’s a flurry of movement behind him and he’s swept off his feet to fall face-first into the embrace of the floral tangle.

That was when the monster stopped, holding Leon up, as if considering him. It had no visible eyes anywhere and Leon doubted it could see him, but it kept him still, and air was heavy with expectation. Did the creature now think that it was supposed to merge with Leon? There was a squirming sensation in Leon’s chest, strange warmth radiating from somewhere beneath his sternum, as if the parasite inside of him was answering the call of its kind.
“Hate to disappoint you,” Leon said, his tone cocky despite the way his heart was beating nervously, cold dread creeping up his spine. “But this reunion is over.” He grabbed his knife, yanking it free of its sheath, before sinking it up to the hilt in the thickest of the tentacles that had wrapped around him.

“Can we save the yelling for tomorrow?” he asks, letting the exhaustion he feels creep into his voice. “Not in the mood for—” He's cut off as Chris wraps his arms around him, pulling him closer, one of his hands on the back of Leon's neck, the other sliding around his waist. Leon's gun hand drops limply to his side as he's caught in Chris' desperate hug.
“You're okay,” Chris says, voice muffled in Leon's hair. “Fuck, Leon.”

It would’ve made a stronger person snap, and Leon was beginning to be absolutely done. He missed Chris so much he wasn't sure if he could still wait those few days until he'd be back home.
Sometime Leon must’ve fallen asleep because the next thing he registered was the mattress dipping next to himself, a familiar weight settling over him. Already before his brain was awake he knew it was Chris, but all he managed was a sleepy little sound. It made Chris chuckle, and he brought his lips close to Leon’s ear, whispering. “Missed me?”
