The solitude is what truly scared her. It scares her still. Presses on her chest until she can't breathe. It leadens her limbs, phantom pains reminding her of the endless nights she spent at the bottom of every bottle. The sorry little box spring she called a bed rigid but familiar.
It's all so stark from the satin or bamboo silk that caresses her skin now. The soft luxury not a shield from the memories but it's becoming a comfort for the nights where she wakes in a cold sweat, the room fuzzy around the edges so her mind almost gets away with the trick. That she's back down there, or she wakes with the smell of blood in her nose, the crimson smattered and oozing from an eye that will never see again. That is, until she takes a full breath, hand blindly reaching out until she touches smooth warmth–
Sometimes, the depths of her own affections frightens her. How she wishes to crawl inside this woman's skin, nestle herself behind her ribs. Call that place home as long as she's allowed.

When they exited the highway, Caitlyn started looking around, looking for clues that might reveal their destination. It only took a few minutes of looking around for her to notice something up in the sky.
“Vi.” She said, her jaw clenched. “Is that a rollercoaster?” She whipped her head around, ready to strangle Vi even if it would kill them both.
Vi looked out the window, a confused look on her face. “How did that get there?”

As Caitlyn begins to settle into her new life with Vi, she finds herself wanting to try something new with her appearance (in more ways than one).

“You’re straining your eye again,” Vi says, finding Cait surprisingly on the bed—a cut down stack of her work ported over to the side-table.
She did not turn on the lights on before getting in, and is instead trying stubbornly to peer through a pair of reading glasses. It fits better now, without the bandages. A single, beautiful eye gleams across the room to Vi.
“Did my father tell you to say that?” Cait asks, rather unimpressed.
There isn’t another eye.
“No,” Vi smiles, truthfully. She walks over to the bed, and Caitlyn curls up—careful around the knee—to let her sit aside. The basket lands between them. “I just hear him say it to you every day.”
Caitlyn scoffs, then looks down, “What’s all this?”
The tide hasn't been in much since the world almost ended, only because it hasn't been that long. There's wounds still to heal—and some that never will—but Vi's on the House Kiramman tab now, so why not go shopping, and find Caitlyn something nice. AKA a soft and sweet trip to get Caitlyn some gifts as Caitlyn gets eaten by 'purpose' and Vi tries to find some, and cope with her new world, looking after her.

“Be serious, Kiramman.”
“Say please,” she whispers. Vi gulps and she knows Caitlyn sees it with the way her eyes follow the movement. Her mind trips and falls back to a few nights prior and there’s no way that wasn’t her intention. There’s a flutter between her legs and a moan halfway up her throat but she pulls it the fuck together.
“I’m not going to beg, Caitlyn,” she replies. The grip on the paintbrush becomes tighter as she lets her annoyance out. There’s something else in it as well, but she’ll ignore it for right now. Something she thinks Caitlyn notices as she feels her cheeks blush and her traitorous eyes slip to her lips.
“I don’t know why not,” she mutters walking closer. Their noses brush and Vi almost lets her eyes drift closed. “You were excellent at it before.”
