That’s the real question, isn’t it. After all, it’s not like Lewis is leaving the sport; not like he is disappearing off the face of the Earth. He’s just moving teams. So why is it affecting Nico so deeply—bringing up buried emotions and ripping open scars he thought were healed.

At the traffic light intersection, Lewis finally looked up from the glove box and met Angela's gaze in the rearview mirror: "The doctor recommended that I contact Nico and ask him for help this year."
"Oh, okay," Angela said. "I understand how you feel. What are you planning to do? Contact him?"
No, Ang. I'm sorry, but I don't think you'd understand. Lewis rolled the window down a little to let fresh air into the car: "I'd rather jump into the sea."

This is terrible, Lewis thought. Although I was not a good teammate back then, Nico wasn't much better, and my sins should have been paid off when I came to Ferrari.
