Steve’s still figuring Eddie out. Like how he'll wheedle and give Steve shit for an offhand remark or tone of voice. It’s not like Tommy, where there was always something darker looming behind his cocked brow or narrowed eyes. The wrong kind of look meant tipping the scales towards an inevitable violence.
With Eddie the wrong look will get cigarette smoke blown in Steve’s face. The wrong words will get teased and playfully flipped back in a way that makes it feel like Eddie’s gently humbling him. Like each time Steve’s face goes warm with embarrassment it’s another strike to the long-dead King Steve. It’s mostly harmless. It’s intriguing. It’s the type of game Steve wants to understand so he can play it back.

Conrad watches Belly with wonder. After four years of barely any contact, anyone else would wave this off with an irritated eye roll, maybe even let it wash off them as a drunken slip. But not Belly. Not Belly, who enters Cousins and remembers every summer and every Christmas. She swallows hard and can't seem to decide where to look, her eyes darting from Conrad, to the food, to the wine. Her face tightens, like a latent rage is settling in. She can't let dead dogs lie, and clearly, neither can Conrad.
Belly wonders how she can repay Conrad for helping her with the wedding. Conrad doesn't mean to tell her.

It only takes some choice encounters for Keith to pick it up: downward cast eyes when they pass each other in setting up camp, twisting away from Keith’s wolf when she inquisitively sniffs at him next to Keith, being uncharacteristically quiet when he unsubtly mentions that the naturally occurring springs on the planet they’re resting on are uncannily similar to Earth’s.
In fact, Lance seems to be at some sort of odds with all the paladins.
