“‘Ah’,” Ilya repeats, giving him a look before he looks back to the tidily stacked frozen mouse packages in the freezer and makes a face as a little badly-hidden shudder moves through him. “Why the fuck do you have mice in your freezer, Shane? You are doing serial killer shit now? This is why you have cottage in the middle of nowhere? For serial killer things?”
“It’s for Spaghetti,” Shane says.
Ilya gives him an absolutely horrified look at that and turns a little green, which makes him remember that Spaghetti isn’t just his snake's name.
“Not food!” He rushes to explain. “Not food spaghetti! Snake Spaghetti!”
“What the fuck are you even saying right now,” Ilya says, looking honestly a little concerned that Shane might have something going wrong in his head.
(Distancing himself from almost twenty years of owning a snake, Shane can indeed see why this situation might be a little alarming for someone on the outside looking in.)
(It also clues him in to the fact that maybe it’s not just Spaghetti who should have gotten a little adjustment period.)

Summary
For all of his professional career, Shane had been sure that he could never have a successful career and Ilya. When they are outed and his entire life implodes, Shane is sure that he's at least lost hockey, but somehow he's now a few months in with the Centaurs, married to the love of his life, and playing the best hockey he ever has. It feels like he's living in the dream his younger self could never have dared to hope for.
So of course they get into the car crash. Shane wake up expecting to be in the hospital, but finds himself in the dorms room he had once shared with JJ and Greg Huff of the Admirals. The room he'd stayed in during the 2014 Olympics. Somehow, he has found himself in the past.
Shane now knows two things for sure:
1. He needs to focus and make a new plan for the future, one where he and Ilya can possibly have a softer future and coming out.
2. If he doesn't get to have Ilya in his life then what is even the point of it all? If he's learned anything from the last year its that hockey is much lower on his hierarchy of needs than he thought. He's gonna do everything he can to make sure he can create a future that is worthy of Ilya. After all, he somehow has a second chance.Bookmarked by kitthogian

Cliff Marleau certainly didn't expect to become one of them after a chance encounter in a quiet hallway of a Vegas hotel. He'd only meant to make sure Shane Hollander was okay.
He didn't expect the day to end with Hollander's phone number, or to spend the summer exchanging messages with the man. He certainly didn't expect to become the one person Shane actually wanted to hear from.
Friendship was never part of the plan... but then neither was falling in love.
