He wants to scream. He hates that name. He never wants to hear it again.
He thinks of the name she called him. Why can't he be Halbrand again? Why have all his plans fallen apart?
Why did he ever let her go?
Rage burns him from the inside out. The orc says something else, but he cannot hear him. He cannot hear anything but the blood rushing in his ears, and he feels only the bellow of anguish building until it erupts—and the entire world around him disintegrates into blinding light.
Fear seizes his entire being. Has he accidentally shed his fana? Is he losing his vision?
Then he feels her arm in his grasp, the soft, seawater-worn sleeve of the white shift she wore on the raft.or: Above the flames of Eregion, Galadriel had left him no choice but to bind her with his darkness. Maybe here, in this illusion, he can know what it would have been for her to bind him with her light.

Summary
Freed after three ages in chains, Melkor returns to Valinor cloaked in false penitence, sowing discord among the Noldor. Yet as his gaze falls upon Lady Artanis - not yet Galadriel - his hunger for light stretches beyond the Silmarils.
