“Come here,” Stede orders, so Ed tucks his face into the crook of Stede’s neck, pressed between his jaw and his arm. He breathes again, a warm rush against Stede’s throat, ruffling at the collar of his shirt. “Are you well?”
“Yeah,” Ed murmurs. The hands on Stede’s hips smooth around to the small of his back and Ed squeezes gently. “Doin’ good.”
“Good. You’re doing very well, Ed.” Ed hums against the thin skin of Stede’s throat, then presses a kiss to it. “Remember that you can stop me if you need to.”
“I will. I promise.”

Summary
This will happen from time to time: Stede will make some movement, place his hands on him in a certain way, and Ed’s body will instinctively tense up in anticipation, a tingle all the way down to his toes at what his mind assumes will be something rough: a pull of hair, a sinking of teeth, the ring of a slap, only for the thrill of it to be inevitably cut short when Stede does nothing of the sort - and then, Ed will be left like this: aching.

Ed wants to be ordered around, roughed up, wants to feel powerless, but he doesn't want to ask. The solution to his problem is nothing short of divine.
