She’s so tired. Tired of pretending to be normal. Tired of pretending to be fine. Tired of how loud this room is and how it makes her want to scream and pull her hair out at the same time.
"Hey, can you look at me?” Karlie says, attempting to grab Taylor’s frantic hands. Taylor quickly jerks her hands away from Karlie, immediately embarrassed that she’s acting like this. Normally she loves holding Karlie’s hand. But she just can’t right now.
No, Taylor tries to say. I can’t, because I’m broken.

Amelia Shepherd is at the top of William McKinley High School's food chain. She's on track to make Head Cheerio by her junior year, is exceedingly popular, effortlessly beautiful, and does well in school. It appears as though her life is immaculate and that there is nothing that doesn't go her way.
That might be how it appears to the average observer, but take a closer look, however, and Amelia's life is rife with cracks and secrets. The popular, "good-girl" facade is just there to hide the spiraling darkness and addiction that is ever present in her life. In fact, she hides it almost too well-- to a suspicious extent.
Enter Rachel Berry, an outcast at McKinley at the very bottom of the social food chain who carries much darkness of her own.
Add in a massive crush that Amelia never envisioned herself having, some internalized homophobia, and the social strata politics of high school, and much angst-filled disaster is bound to ensue.
