Jamie nods, slowly, lips pursed together. “Alright,” he says again.
Roy really hates that fucking word.
“You ought to take a trip or something, Coach,” Jamie says, flopping back down onto the pillows, making no move to leave Roy’s bed despite the whole needing space thing. “Take a holiday before the season starts. Get your head on straight.”
That - isn’t the worst idea Jamie’s ever had, really.

He's not counting on Jamie Tartt (former Premier League phenom who quit without warning) turning up as the host and flirting furiously with him.
It turns out that not only will Roy's reputation get an assist, but so will his love life.

Summary
Having narrowly escaped relegation, AFC Richmond dreams of rising to the very top, Jamie and Roy struggle to navigate their new secret relationship, and Jamie’s dad threatens to destroy their fragile happiness. Jamie has to learn the hard way that he’s not alone anymore, and needs to find the strength and courage to ask for help.

“He’s my dad,” Jamie says weakly, trying to explain what he knows is irrational behavior. He knows he doesn’t owe his dad anything, not his time or money or respect. “It’s easier this way.”
Roy slowly wraps his arms around Jamie from behind, pulling him back against the warmth of his chest. Jamie rests limply there, letting Roy take some of his weight. “I don’t fucking understand, Jamie.”
Jamie nods miserably. “I know. But he’ll leave me alone for a while now.”
Roy sighs heavily, his breath warming the side of Jamie’s neck. “What would he have done, if I wasn’t here?” he asks, clearly choosing his words carefully.
Jamie shrugs again. He wraps his hands around Roy’s arms, keeping him there. Roy leans his head against Jamie’s, holding him tight.

A few whoops and cheers fly around the room. As the music starts up, Jamie slinks onto the stage, swaying his hips in time with the beat. He moves beautifully, a grace in the way he holds his body and shows off his flexibility. He spins, and twists, and inverts, and splits his way gracefully around the pole, lights catching on each angular jut of his body.

Season 2 canon divergence
Roy and Keeley haven't made things official and when they do, they decide to be open. This is especially convenient for Roy, who can't seem to stop sleeping with Jamie Tartt, of all people. Maybe once or twice would have been excusable, not even worth mentioning, but as confusing feelings develop, he has to admit he hasn't be honest with anyone, even himself.
