Summary
"Zuko, my sister Katara. Katara, my roommate Zuko."
She blinks, the familiarity of the name hums in her bones as she stares at him. But then, she snaps herself out of her stupor by mentally shaking her head, realising she's been standing there looking like an idiot that Zuko probably thinks she's being weird.
But, he doesn't seem to notice as he blinks at her too.
So, she takes the initiative to offer her hand towards him, letting a smile grace her face. "Nice to meet you."

Summary
“Summers at Ember Island were a royal family favorite. With its relaxing ocean waves, soft-sanded beaches, and its hot sun blaring down for long hours at a time, the island never failed to rejuvenate even the most stressed-out individual. Katara, despite her natural preference for colder days, couldn't help but love the time spent on the beach. Fond memories were built over the years, and soon enough, the memories included more than just her, more than Zuko.
They included Kya now, all gangly limbs and endless curiosity, shireking every time the tide chased her ankles before running right back toward it again as if daring the ocean to try harder (much like her mother, if she did say so herself). They included Toph stretched lazily beneath a sunshade with one arm thrown behind her head, listening intently to Kya’s rambles about some shell she’d found, answering every question with perfect accuracy. They included Kanto, too, broad-shouldered and kind in the way mountains were, sitting beside Toph with his feet buried in the sand. That was what her time away looked like lately, and it was what she preferred.”
OR: Katara, Zuko, Kya, Toph, and Kanto spend time at Ember Island and expect private time to no avail.

Katara aimed her own set of polar bear-puppy eyes in Sokka’s direction, with a distinctly panicked slant to her mouth. He gulped, then took a deep breath and squared his shoulders. “Look, uh, Aang, and Zuko- there- there aren’t any southern waterbenders anymore. And. There haven’t been any airbenders either, not in a hundred years, when Sozin’s Comet kinda kickstarted the war.”
The baby dragon made an unhappy squeak as its owner staggered backwards to drop onto his butt in the snow.

Summary
Zuko falls to Azula's lightning, and Katara realizes she doesn’t want him to die. She doesn’t want anyone to die, but she especially doesn’t want him to die. Sometimes she thinks he’s the only one who understands, when the others are laughing and goofing off. What it’s like to have to try to be fun, to remind yourself that you’re just a kid too.
(And how stupid and typical of him to die this way, sacrificing himself for her.)
There’s not much else to do (she knows, she’s considered anything else she could possibly do). Katara pushes up her sleeves and sets to work saving his life.
Or
Katara heals Zuko after the Agni Kai and things go... wrong.
