Summary
Okay, sure. So, there was a word for people who didn’t find other people sexy. Great. A normal word. A well-known word. And not a medical condition.
But surely whoever wrote this understood that it was an anomaly. There weren’t enough people like this to warrant a label. After all, what was the point of a human who didn’t want sex?
(What was the point of me? — I’d asked a hundred times before.)
Or: A heteronormative movie adaptation, a very weird BuzzFeed article, and an internet rabbit hole lead Grace to the discovery of a label sixty years in the making.

It’s almost like… like Hikaru’s being soaked from the inside, like something’s seeped into him and won’t stop — turning color to sludge and corners to rot. Hikaru’s molding and mildewing, and growing in his remains is something else.
Hikaru is less Hikaru the closer Yoshiki looks.
So Yoshiki closes his eyes.

He’s gotta distract himself. He has to move past Hikaru. Then he can be a good friend the way Hikaru deserves without all of Yoshiki’s gross feelings poisoning the well. If he doesn’t get over it then he might not end up being able to keep Hikaru in his life in any capacity.
A stupid idea crosses his mind. He knows it’s stupid—this whole thing is stupid.

He wants to ask about the implications of Yoshiki’s statement—so he’s the one who takes it? Makes sense, he’s never been especially physically active. But he’s tall and handsome and not especially effete. He imagines Yoshiki laying beneath him, demure and unguarded. Without meaning to, he says, “So you’re the girl?”
“Go die,” Yoshiki says automatically.

The words left Yoshiki's mouth without thinking, but there was no hesitation in them.
Hikaru's eyes widened. "Wha-?"
"Mix with me," he repeated firmly, looking him right in the eyes. "Right now."
After Hikaru is rescued from the company's clutches, Yoshiki tries to convince him he's not gross the only way he knows how.

The radio blares to life when the car first starts, a too-cheerful song playing too loud, before Kurebayashi fumbles it off. After that she doesn't try to turn it back on, or start a conversation. All they have to accompany them is the motion of the car bumping along the road, the flash of streetlights throwing shadows across their faces - and Hikaru, who wants to shrivel up and die.

Hikaru learns that maybe some aspects of himself aren't as inhuman as he thought.

“If you don’t wanna talk about whatever it is that’s upsetting ya, that’s fine.” Hikaru leans back against the wall, not looking at her as he picks at his shoelaces. “But if someone rejected ya, just say the word an’ I’ll thrash ‘em.”
This time, Asako laughs properly.
“I beat you every time we arm wrestle,” she reminds him, but then she stops smiling. It’s easier if she doesn’t look at him. “My uh… my granny died, actually. Last week.”
When she risks a glance at him, Hikaru is looking at her, his face caught in a soft, sad look she doesn’t want to understand. “Yeah,” he says quietly. He catches her hand, and squeezes it, slightly cold but firm and solid. “I’m sorry. That really, really sucks.”
Or, upset over losing her granny, Asako finds comfort in an unlikely source.

Summary
The problem, Hikaru decides, is that Yoshiki is kind of a wimp. Yoshiki's gotten away with it for all these years because he's always been taller than the rest of them; no one's picking him out as an easy target at first glance. But if you know how to sniff these things out - and Hikaru does - Yoshiki's got that unmistakable wounded-animal quality to him, like a deer limping just a bit as it moves through the herd. The sort of guy you can't help but want to push around a little, just to see how far he'll let you take it.
Hikaru doesn't like that other people might be starting to see it, too.

Suddenly, his hand presses down on something large and pillowy. Hikaru curls in on himself and chokes out a gasp of air. Then he laughs, and Yoshiki feels it against his hand.
“What was—”
“Stop punchin’ the air outta my lungs!” Hikaru wheezes out. “Feels really funny.”
Yoshiki recoils. “Yer lu—you’re just playin’ with me, right?”
Hikaru grabs onto his hand, preventing him from pulling out further. “Not joking. You can probably squeeze the air right outta me.”
This sends a chill down Yoshiki's spine.
Hikaru tugs on his arm, urging him forward until his knuckles brush against it again. The lung. “Just be gentle,” Hikaru says. “I don't mind ya touchin' it.”
Hikaru wants to keep testing Yoshiki's ability to resist impurities. Yoshiki is interested in learning the intricacies of Hikaru's insides.
