Summary
The tower was never fully quiet, but that was comforting in its own way. Tara snored quietly in a plush armchair, and the occasional soft, crackling hum of enchantments and wards left the place feeling cozy.
It had taken only weeks for Gale's sleep schedule to fall fully out of sync with that of a more reasonable mortal once Astarion had moved in, and though it was very nearly sunrise, Astarion's acute hearing could pick up the sounds of shuffling and soft thumping from his library upstairs. This would have been perfectly normal, despite the hour-- until, of course, he heard a soft moan.

Summary
"Your face is red," Astarion said softly, strangely uncritical.
"That's what happens when you cry," Gale informed him patiently, oddly placid as well.
"Why?"
"Well, there are multiple factors that can cause such a reaction, and it varies person to person-"
"Why were you crying?" Astarion interrupted, his voice low. "What's that going to solve?"
---
The orb is stabilized and Gale gets to have a big ugly cry as a treat. Please heed the tags and proceed with caution- there is some non-graphic rumination on Gale's mission from Mystra/Elminster.

Summary
Now that Astarion was watching him fumble his way through meeting several other guests at Jen's behest, all while constantly throwing him the saddest little glances, Astarion decided that he had dodged a bullet.
Yes.
Gale would have been a terrible date to this silly little event.
It's the night of the Rivington Public Library's annual fundraiser dinner, and though Astarion has come to enjoy his new, quiet life as a librarian, tonight has proven rather challenging... and it's all Gale's fault.

Summary
Astarion peeked over Gale's shoulder, drawing closer to him than he ever had before. It had been a tenday since he'd begun this dance with their funny little wizard, and the time to strike was drawing ever-closer. While the stew in the pot did look appetizing, even to someone who did not eat, this close to Gale, Astarion found himself distracted by Gale's scent. Lavender oil in his hair, a few strands clinging to Astarion's cheek as he fully tucked his chin over Gale's purple-clad shoulder. The bodily funk of a man who had naught more than a chilly river to bathe in. The too-sweet scent of rot that seeped into the air from the orb.
And something else. Something... similar to blood, at least in its metallic nature, but also akin to mint? Cooling as it passed through his nose. Like a breath of sparkling, snow-dusted winter air. It was unlike anything Astarion had ever encountered before.
Astarion decides to pay a visit to Waterdeep (and his favorite wizard), only to intercept Gale just as he is about to embark on a mysterious journey into the Sword Mountains.

Summary
Gale has accepted that practicality, to Astarion, is saving himself first, even if -- maybe especially if -- it means Gale may not get saved at all. An incident in the Gauntlet of Shar puts his theory to the test.
