His eyes dropped from her face, and he looked as if he wanted to hang his head but couldn’t with her hands holding it up.
She lightly brushed her thumb over his cheekbone on the non-ruined side of his face.
His tears began all at once, though he was clearly fighting them, biting at his lower lip and scrunching his face up in a way that couldn’t have felt good with the bruise.
