Jason is used to his life being generally unpredictable. It comes with the territory of his work, since when you rely too heavily on a routine, you'll end up getting shocked when it gets disrupted over and over again. Rolling with the punches is a term that encompasses multiple aspects of the job.
Still, some things blindside him when they really shouldn't.
Like finding a fifteen-year-old, fresh-faced version of himself on a rooftop tied up and beat to hell.

Jason falls asleep trying not to desperately inhale the faint scent of Dick’s cologne, trying not to play the words honey and sweetheart over and over in his head, trying not to think of Dick, shirtless in the bathroom, rolling his eyes and walking out without saying a word.
He tries an awful lot and fails anyway.
This is where it starts: the slamming of a bedroom door. Jason is twelve, and Dick hates him.

Dick’s taunting face suddenly turned cold and stony. “I’m not Bruce’s son. You’re not my sister. You’re just another orphan living in this house.”
Her first meeting with Dick was something awkward and carefully orchestrated, but that’s usually the one that comes to mind most when she thinks about the beginning of their relationship.Jay thought it was a dream come true when she was picked up off the street by the richest guy in Gotham, especially when he proved himself to be a decent man. The only problem is the asshole who lives down the hall from her.
Bruce and Dick had a good thing going for almost seven years before he decided to take in a random kid, and Dick makes his problem with it abundantly clear.
She hits puberty eventually.

Bruce skidded to a halt, breath hissing through his teeth.
Superman’s head came up sharply, like the sound of Bruce’s shock still meant something to him—and it was Clark, but he was different. Different lines on his face, a subtly different curl to his hair, and as he looked Bruce up and down his eyes blew wide.
