Summary
Penelope Featherington is a successful English teacher, Deputy Headteacher and single mum to an energetic 5 year old, Elliott. They venture to London for a few days of exploring and new experiences during the summer holidays.
What Penelope doesn’t expect however, is for her carefully managed and curated world to collide with the chaotic Bridgerton family due to chance meeting between Elliott and some of the next generation of Bridgertons.
Penelope has spent years building a coat of armour to protect herself, and by extension Elliott, from everything negative that the world could throw their way. She is determined to give Elliott a totally different upbringing from her own.

What if the story was inverse?
Penelope Featherington is admired and highly sought after in society while being friends with the unfashionable and garish Bridgerton family. There is a special friendship of more than ten years with Eloise and Colin in particular since they are the siblings closest in age to her and her brother.
Yet what Penelope thinks is friendship is the deepest of unrequited love for Colin...until he overhears her put the final nail in his coffin of hope and he finally accepts that it's time to give up that dream.
His final farewell and cold goodbye leaves Penelope's head spinning with unbidden thoughts and Colin is unsure if he can find anyone else that speaks to his heart as she always has.
The timing of this finding is most inconvenient because there is no true escape for him since he is spending the off-season with her family in the country and avoiding her seems impossible - no matter how hard he tries.

What if we could hear what Colin says to Penelope during their kiss? What if we'd had more time to let the original script's dialogue breathe and make sense? After months of post-season 3 polin brain rot, this is my labor of love.

Her newer dresses suited her more, of course, made her look more adult. And God, the lavender work of art she was wearing today was both a lace-wrapped weapon and a daydream, lethal to his fragile heart, the answer to his unspoken prayers. She was poured into it, gorgeous, and he longed to drink her every drop. He even caught Benedict looking at her as surreptitiously as possible, which for Benedict is borderline obvious.
Colin had punched him - not lightly - in the arm.
Benedict smirked. “I am sorry,” he whispered.
“She is married. To your brother.”
“She is a rose in bloom. What is anyone to do but look? You are a lucky man.”
“I know,” he said quietly into his champagne glass.
Colin’s heart simultaneously softened and cracked a bit more at that. He was getting used to carrying duality in his chest pocket, these days.-OR-
Colin and Penelope made a plan to reveal Lady Whistledown to the Queen in the Bridgerton House study after Francesca's wedding. Colin's part in the plan did not play out on screen, but that is what we, dearest gentle readers, have fan fiction for.
