    Summary

River awaited a well-deserved retort about her own extra-marital (emphasis on the extra and the marriages) activities, but the Doctor was giving her one of those besotted, mooning smiles.

“What?” she asked, smiling cautiously in return.

“I was just thinking, we did get to share that one first. Our wedding night.”

River’s stomach dropped. Oh no. She forgot to bring this one up when they were in the cocoon phase.

    Summary

It was supposed to be summer, Earth-calendar-wise, but summer wasn’t something Darillium had at night. River made up for it by reading in the TARDIS gardens and doing laps round the swimming pool, because heavens knew she could use some proper exercise. Most of the time, the Doctor followed her from room to room, reading on the chaise beside her or chatting with her from one of the pool chairs. He didn’t seem to be keen on swimming this go-round.

    Summary

She didn’t feel like she could understand it fully, but she could sense the loneliness in it, not a bad loneliness as she so often felt as a child even in a house so full, but a quiet solitude, a good one, she hoped. She felt as if she was being seen in it, not young Mary, but her current self, who moved on her own to London, to stay with family she barely met in order to follow her dreams.

She also felt the power of nature, of living free. Of roaming through the fields and going home to something she loved, to reflect on her days, even if those were spent alone.

“This is a really good one,” she heard a low voice whisper above her shoulder and didn’t need to turn around to see who it was; she knew it.

or, Mary is a librarian, Tom is her favourite patron, and she decided poetry might be a good idea for her after all.
