    Summary

"We’ve met,” Nightingale said, and rose and shook Thomas’s hand again. “I’m afraid I’ve already imposed on him for directions.”

Thomas thought he’d rather imposed the directions on Nightingale, but he didn’t object to the edited version. “Did you see Lord Grantham?”

“Yes,” Nightingale said. “And he’s kindly consented to allow me to speak with some of you.”

“Oh,” Thomas said, wrong-footed. “About what?”

“Well, we’ll see where the conversation takes us,” Nightingale said unhelpfully.

    Summary

Baelor’s lip twitches in amusement, “What a little prince you are. You’re ready for the honor, my prince. But first, before I can bring you to Father and sing your praises, we need to get that armor off of you.”

Maekar turns red from shame, but takes the helmet off, crushed petals cascading down his face. His braids are sweaty and stained a light red, streaked with armoring oil. But he still has his flower crown, perched right above his head. Aegor laughs, Daemon’s eyes light up with amusement. But neither of them are there. Maekar looks around the field and sees only Daenerys and Rhaegal peering through the roses. A kingsguard a stones throw away. The song of birds.

“Those are just petals, thank the gods.”

    “What?”

Baelor kneels down in front of him, and Maekar can’t manage his usual protests about stained clothes, distracted by how his face burns, his eyes water, and he feels a burning rush of embarrassment that he can barely understand. Strong hands wipe the tears away.

“When I saw the red I was so scared,” Baelor whispers, “That you had been bleeding under your helmet. But they are just flowers, thank the gods.”
