Summary
After the events of Torfan leave her grounded pending clearance of a mental health evaluation, Commander Jane Shepard is offered a chance to serve as the first human C-Sec Detective. Though many questions are raised regarding the offer, she accepts the opportunity as an alternative to the desk work she's been doing while grounded. Once on the Citadel, she meets the newly minted Detective Vakarian. Working with the impulsive detective proves a challenge Shepard hadn't expected.
Tasked with solving a double homicide, they get swept up in scenarios that challenge them to find common ground. Both are pushed to their limits as the investigation leads them closer to the elusive Dr. Heart. Once Garrus comes to realize his feelings are changing, he learns things about Shepard that make him question whether it's fair to stand in her way. During a pivotal point where one decision sets them on a trajectory that might thrust them apart for good, they find out just how far they are willing to go to come together again.

But it’s definitely a demotion, so I wouldn’t mess with him. He’s probably pissed about it and out to ruin our lives.”
Lucy chews thoughtfully on the end of her pen as she half listens, half wonders.
