Those usual bright and puppy-like brown eyes were dark and half-lidded, dragging down Yoonchae’s frame, deliberately, as the corner of her mouth had curled into the smallest, but most self-satisfied, smirk ever. Megan’s chest was rising and falling, doing her best to catch her breath, under the ridiculous t-shirt she’d worn to rehearsals today—it was the one she’d been given during their tour by a fan in Boston, the words Titty Garden printed across the black fabric in blocky yellow font. If they hadn’t been on stage, the sip of water she’d just taken would’ve been snorted through her nose. Now, though, as she does her best not to gulp at the look Megan’s currently giving her, joking about it feels irrelevant.

Slowly, her brain came back to Runeterra. She blinked, trying to focus on her surroundings. Vi had been laid to rest on an old, tattered red chair tucked against a bean bag so she could stretch out her legs. Above her, there was a colorful canopy illuminated with string lights. Amongst the clutter on the little table sat a ragdoll with a body made out of a music box with woven bright magenta hair.
Vi had an idle thought of the ragdoll being dressed in a vaguely familiar manner, before her eyes landed on her own younger face, painted in watercolor inside a wooden frame.
The recognition took a moment to sink in. “What the fuck?”

Contrary to popular belief, Yolanda was fully capable of being humbled. She’d felt it when she’d realized that whatever the fuck Langdon had been up to with drugs had been serious, not just some overblown gossip from a brand new intern. A week ago, when Yolanda had heard through the grapevine about his sudden sabbatical, she’d known. There was no way the man would have voluntarily stepped away from work and there was also no way Robby would sideline his favorite resident without a very good reason.
Yolanda had apologized a couple days ago in the best way she knew how: she’d let Santos take over the chest tube insertion for the next patient who needed one. They’d also talked it out, but Yolanda had always been one to weigh actions as more meaningful than words. She’d also started testing the waters, flirting lightly, nothing nearly as heavy-handed as that first day, because after everything she’d wanted to give Trinity the chance to come to her.
But she’d never been the type to sit around waiting for things to happen to her. So, despite her resolution to leave the ball in Trinity’s court, she found herself waiting by the ED lockers for Trinity to wrap up her shift.
