"Yes!" Kal-El exclaimed excitedly, his hot chocolate nearly spilling from his mug. "Now, where on your balcony do you normally watch them?"
The light from the surrounding skyscrapers made Kal-El appear angelic, like he was glowing from within. Lex couldn’t control the intrusive thought that invaded his mind: the vivid image of Kal-El on his knees, the light from the upcoming fireworks painting his unblemished skin in a flurry of color.
"Lex?" Kal-El enquired gently, shaking him out of his reverie.
Lex pressed his mouth into a tight facsimile of a smile. He put on the mask of the perfect, attentive boyfriend Kal-El deserved and locked that dark part of him away. He would talk to his therapist about it later.

“Who, Robby?” God, he was so gentle, leading Robby to his execution. When Robby didn’t say anything, Jack asked again, even softer. His hand had come up to cradle the back of Robby’s head, and his thumb rubbed softly over the skin on the back of his neck. Robby’s eyes stung, and he turned to mash his face into Jack’s chest.
“My mom,” he said, and gasped sharply. “My mom was Mohan’s patient. She didn’t recognize me.”
Pressed up close like this, Robby could hear Jack’s heartbeat stumble and speed up. He shifted enough to get his other arm around Robby too.
“Okay. Okay, Rob.”
“Forty-eight years, Jack. I haven’t seen her in forty-eight years.”

“Okay,” he said. “All right. Here we go.” He blinked back tears and looked her in the eye. “Mama, I don’t forgive you. I don’t forgive you, but I release you. I hope there’s peace for you now.”

“Your turn?” Deadpool asks dumbly.
“To interrogate,” Spider-Man clarifies.
“Wow, rude much?” Deadpool gasps. “This is my kidnapping. Go commit your own felony!”
Spider-Man ignores him and asks, “Nobody is paying you for this operation, are they?”
“What?” Deadpool’s voice is full of defensive panic now. “I am a highly sought-after, top-tier mercenary! I have a brand! Of course someone is paying me for—”
“Wade, this entire op has the structural integrity of soggy cereal and the budget of a middle school Christmas play,” Spider-Man interrupts smoothly. “Nobody would pay money for this mess. The only question I have left is why? What are you gaining from this?”
