The water bottle is pushed gently against his face, right along the fading tear tracks. Seconds stretch out only to shatter around them. Time a poignant wheel that won't stop turning in circles. What they need right now is a line to cross. But they're formless in the fallout. Still, Hoshina persists. Pushes back against the splintering moment.
“Come on. Drink."
It makes sense, that Hoshina would love as fiercely as he fights.

Summary
When Kafka became No. 8, everything changed. The transformation brought with it a slew of new sensations and emotions, but the one that stood out most to him was the flicker of his soulmark. The panicked thought that he may have lost his other half was overwhelming, and he'd felt a desperation he'd never known before.
His hand went to his wrist, fingers closing around the familiar symbol that had always been there, the white yang of his soulmark. But when he looked down... it was gone, lost beneath the kaiju's hide.
The panic that coursed through him in that moment was unlike anything he'd ever felt. He felt for the mark, praying – knowing somehow – that it would return.
But then, as he returned to his human form, the mark was there, intact and unchanged. He gripped his wrist, the stark white Yang a stark contrast against his skin, and held on tightly. In that moment, it held far more significance than it ever had before.
Kafka clutched at the mark, as if holding onto a lifeline. For him, this was the one thing that still tied him to his humanity.

Soshiro tosses the phone back. It lands in the middle of Kafka's chest with a soft thud.
"Absolutely not."
With an energised grunt, Kafka throws himself onto the ground. Flopped out like a starfish starving for the ocean that refuses to wash over them. It's so silly. Worse, Soshiro is completely taken by it.
"But I'm really great at texting!" Oh lord, he's pouting now. "I have so many cool things to share."
Shuffling onto the edge of the bench, Soshiro pokes at him. If Kafka wants his number, he has to work a little for it.
"Like what?" He snaps his fingers. "Come on. Give me some examples."
"Argh. Don't rush me, it's hard to think under pressure!" A beat passes. "Just - you know, stuff…”
Having Kafka in his pocket is comedy gold. It's also everything Soshiro ever wanted.

One evening, Kafka Hibino found himself transformed in his hospital bed into a horrible Kaiju. He lay on his spiny back, and if he lifted his head, armoured exoskeletal skull like a helm, he could see his grey chest and belly, woven with muscles corded like titanium fibres and divided by luminescent creases, casting an ambient blue glow.
Most days, Kafka still feels like a human being. There are times, though, when he remembers that he doesn't have the right to think of himself as a man any longer.
In those moments, whether they're racing ahead, flagging behind, or standing alongside of him, Ichikawa and Mina always seem to prove otherwise.

The kiss is less awkward than Kafka expects. He’d been ready, as soon as their lips touched, for Mina to shove him away and look at him like he’s doing something weird. Instead, she makes a little sound and kisses him back, soft and warm, and it’s doing something to him.
Only when he realises that he’s bending over more than he should be and his tongue feels too long and thick does Kafka realise what it’s doing.
