Everyone has a creature companion.
Kurosawa’s is a small, serpentine eastern dragon named Kanpai — charismatic, perceptive, and deeply frustrated by seven years of watching its human consciously restrain his feelings for Adachi.
Adachi’s companion is a freshwater turtle named Nibby, calm and gentle and entirely unaware that it's the center of Kanpai’s attention.
As Kanpai grows increasingly bold in its attempts to befriend (aka flirt with) Nibby at the office, Kurosawa finds himself fighting a losing battle to keep his feelings contained.
Especially when Adachi remains oblivious — and Kanpai absolutely refuses to be.

“I’m the Emperor’s eldest son,” Jinshi blurts out when Maomao opens the door.
He stands, half slouched against the frame of her door as if he might collapse. His ragged, hurried breaths make for the only sound in the dark hallway of her dorms, which remain blessedly silent in spite of the nightly disturbance. Maomao should have gone to bed a long time ago, but she lost track of time, leafing through one of the books she borrowed from the medical office.
Would she have heard Jinshi knock on her door if she had?
Her eyes scan over his dishevelled features and she blindly reaches for his wrist, pulling him inside. The muted thump of the door closing behind them sounds like an ominous warning about her allowing an unmarried man inside her chambers in the middle of the night.
or: Jinshi knocks on her door in the middle of the night with a discovery. Maomao lets him in.

Well aware of the trouble his appearance and reputation brought him, Jinshi knew to make use of a good amount of disguises and masks if he was to successfully navigate his duties to the country of Li. It didn’t quite stop people from noticing him anyways, nor the way he interacted with the young apothecary he always seemed to be around.
Or: five times other people unknowingly observed Maomao interacting with one of Jinshi’s disguises + one time someone saw her interacting with the real him.

“Maomao?” He presses, fingers closing over hers and lowering their joined hands to her lap, and she blinks in surprise at the use of her name. “What is it? What’s wrong?”
“Their technique is sloppy,” she answers honestly. “I feel strain on my heart. They should have targeted the nervous system instead.”
Master Jinshi stares at her like she’s spoken a foreign language he can’t even begin to try and understand. She tries to explain.
“Certain snake venoms cause coagulation of the blood, which could have been effective and made the blood unable to move through my veins, but if the end result is simply making my heart stop beating by targeting the muscles involv-”
“Maomao,” Master Jinshi says, very calmly, “I need you to stop speaking now.”
(an assassin tries to kill jinshi with a poisoned blade that gets maomao instead) (she is obviously much less concerned about this than everyone else)

He stops telling her things, starts closing off. She wants to tell him that she has more room in her heart, she can fit more of his secrets inside her, but she doesn't. Whenever she presses, he leaves.

After losing his hand on Cloud City and discovering that Darth Vader is his father, Luke thinks things over and comes to the conclusion that a) Vader is actually on the Rebellion's side and just hasn't realized it yet, b) Vader needs his help, c) Vader needs to figure out that he and the Rebellion want the same things, and d) the best way to accomplish both b. and c. is to (obviously) surrender to Vader and refuse to leave him alone, trusting in the Power of Love to change Vader's ways.
Leia, Ahsoka, and the rest of Luke's friends in the Alliance disagree with this, but they can't get Luke to leave, and Vader can't kill them because it would destroy his new relationship with his son (it's not that Vader is attached to them at all -- no, no). Admiral Piett is forced to open up the unused guest quarters on the Executor as the Sleepover to Restore the Republic (And Maybe Save Darth Vader in the Process) drags on and grows to unreasonable proportions.

She turns towards the movement, eyes scanning through the trees, but all she sees is the white of the snow reflecting the winter sun.
With her heart racing, she continues on, steps quicker now. With her quickened heart comes quickened breath, and it clouds hot and moist within the scarf she has pulled up over her nose. All too soon, it feels cloying, and so she pulls a mittened hand out of her muff and reaches up and tugs the scarf down and breathes in the sharp, crystalline winter air. Her eyes flutter closed with relief, but they snap back open when she hears something rustling.
A deer, she tells herself. It was simply a deer, fleeing from her. Animals are more scared of you than you are of them, she hears in mother’s soothing voice.
Not all of them, she hears in father’s.
