He was the closest relevant thing to a zombie, if you will, who played prisoner to the person who had reduced him to his stale condition after kidnapping him mid-step in the streets of Tokyo. Being a "zombie" should have its advantages to survive against the lunatic, but it took a turn for the worse.
Obsession. Isagi Yoichi grew obsessed with him while Rin actively planned to murder the vampire.

He always had to be careful. There was no other option; he couldn’t allow himself to be anything but that. Rin didn’t care if it made him come off as an asshole or as a loner. "What? Come on... " Isagi drawls out with a chuckle like he can't believe it. Like it's a joke. "Of course he does, I know I don't have any siblings, but from what I've gathered all siblings deep down really do care about each other, so what makes you the exception?"
