Après un été mouvementé, Harry se promet de se concentrer sur les leçons de Dumbledore, et non sur la vie amoureuse de sa mère. Malgré tous ses efforts, il ne peut ignorer le comportement de plus en plus suspect de Rogue : couvrir Malefoy, faire des courbettes pathétiques à Lily et feindre de ne pas détester Harry. Lily se consacre corps et âme à l’enseignement et au recrutement, mais s’inquiète pour Severus et son refus de révéler la lourde responsabilité que Dumbledore lui a confiée.
