    “T’hy’la.”

He could still remember the way Spock screamed the word.

    Turning to Uhura, Pike spoke.

“Ensign. I want you to get the translator up and running and get as much information on that word Spock kept saying. ‘T’hy’la’, I think.”

“I don’t need the translator sir. I know what it means.”

She hesitated and Pike gave her a look.

    “…And?”

“Well… there’s no exact translation to standard. It can mean lots of things. Friend, brother.” She paused. “But the closest translation is probably… lover.”

When Spock mysteriously collapses, it's up to Pike to figure out what happened, who "t'hy'la" is and how he can save Spock before it's too late.

    Summary

Sweat soaked Spock’s shirt and sheets, a distracting tenderness in his chest. He began to sit up, but his shirt rubbed his nipples, the pain blinding. His eyes watering on reflex, he removed it gingerly and examined himself. His chest was flushed and taut, his nipples puffy. It resembled an allergic reaction, but vulcan immune systems were far more advanced than human ones and did not misinterpret harmless inputs as pathogens. Could this be his human genes at play? But even then, medical advances had largely eradicated allergies in humans. He touched his chest to determine further points of concern.

Pain cracked through his nipple like a hot whip.

He whimpered, unwanted tears blurring his vision. His thoughts spun into nonsense. He had a high pain tolerance. So what could elicit such agony? He had not done anything out of the ordinary.

    Except consume the plant.

    His stomach sank.
