Summary
Grantaire’s foolish crush had never felt so painfully intense. As much as she loved Enjolras for her fire and passion, the distant, severe statue of a vengeful goddess, that was easy enough to bear. That figure was not so real and apparent, so touchable and vulnerable, but this Enjolras was.

Summary
Enjolras doesn’t understand Grantaire. Out of all of them, she is the most incongruous. There are times when she seems almost resigned to playing the part she has been assigned, petticoats and girdles and pin curls, pretending at the ideal of a perfect little wife. How disappointed any man would be if he took those moments at face value.
She paints and quotes poetry that is too abstract and modern for Enjolras to get her head around, yet she fastidiously rejects the label bohemian and spurns the black turtleneck crowd that likes to gather in smoky bars. She instead chooses to slum it with their radical group of misfits, fiercely loyal even as she derides their efforts.
It all adds up to a confusing mess. The more Enjolras tries to understand it – her – the less sense it makes.A mid-century lesbians AU.

He assesses the situation — Grantaire looks a little shocked, a little scared, and a whole lot of confused, and Enjolras struggles to find something to say that won’t be too much, that won’t make Grantaire want to leave.

Summary
“You didn’t correct him. I waited for you to correct him and you didn’t.”
Obviously, Enjolras realized what he was talking about and Grantaire knew it as well. But it was a conversation he would prefer not to have, so he feigned ignorance in hopes Grantaire would just give up and forget about it, “I’m not sure I know what you mean.”
Grantaire didn’t even blink, “You do. You didn’t correct him at the start, and you didn’t correct him in the end. I would go so far as to say you confirmed his assumptions. You had no reason to do that– you already had your deal, it would have changed nothing."
Or, simultaneously a story about trying to obtain gunpowder for your revolution as well as a reflection on how being asexual can be very confusing.

Summary
It is said that only the pure of heart can bond with a dragon. Grantaire knows this is a load of dung, because any noble with enough money to obtain an egg or ten is capable of bonding with one that’s young enough to not know better.
Still, Enjolras and his dragon in flight are enough to almost make him believe it. A Golden, bred and born at the perfect time to grow alongside a youthful Enjolras to fight in their monarchy’s war against the Empire. Glimmering and perfect.

Summary
It is a Tuesday, late afternoon, and Enjolras’ top three local coffeeshops are all closed. Two per their regular schedule; one, he observes with rising alarm and trepidation, for a baby shower.
“Well,” says Grantaire, who happens to be there, because he always is. “If an angel was born when that baby first laughed, I think your glare just killed him.”Bookmarked by pyrestes

Summary
"Courfeyrac hesitated to hug Enjolras. It lasted a second only, but Courfeyrac paused before Enjolras raised his arms, and it felt so wrong that Grantaire couldn’t help but look at his other friends to make sure he hadn’t imagined it. Nobody had seemed to notice - or, at least, nobody seemed surprised. "
(In which Enjolras is an alchemist losing his way, everybody is unbalanced and scared by it, and nothing is more powerful than friendship in the end.)

Summary
Courfeyrac leaned against a shelf that creaked ominously, and he hastily straightened. “Well, it’s not Christmas,” he reasoned.
“Not Grantaire’s birthday, either,” Combeferre added.
“And no judgment, Enj, but it’s a little late for Valentine’s Day.”
Enjolras ground his teeth together, glaring a garish painting of a sad clown as if it had personally offended him. “It’s an apology gift,” he said sourly, staring determinedly away from Courfeyrac and Combeferre so that he didn’t have to see the look they inevitably gave each other.
He was already familiar with it.

“I think in a week or so,” Enjolras muses, sifting through the final pages of his book, “I’m going to propose.”
From his lean against a tree out in the field on this uncommonly pleasant afternoon, one field among many of Grantaire’s acres and estates throughout rural France, Grantaire is oddly silent.
“Next week?” He finally says, deep. “Enjolras. The woman hates you. I know your grasp on the fairer sex is limited, but she said it outright.”Bookmarked by pyrestes

Summary
There's a sudden tension at one end of the table: an indrawn breath, an electromagnet switched on. Courfeyrac glances towards the head of the table, and Grantaire--her peripheral vision blinkered by her hood--is treated to a truly exciting display of alarm from him. Courfeyrac opens his mouth, about to cut off--
"If you need a date for the night…"
And he's too late. Grantaire turns, and catches Enjolras's gaze full in the face.
--
(In which Grantaire's having a Week, but it could be so, so much worse. It could be last year.)

“How long?”
Combeferre shrugged, but Courfeyrac, half-draped over Ferre’s lap, scrunched his face up thoughtfully.
“An hour?” he guessed, nudging his head against Combeferre’s hand like a cat. “Perhaps longer.”
Enjolras was already half out of his seat. “Has anyone thought to check if he’s still conscious?”
“It’s Grantaire,” said Joly from Enjolras’ other side, where he sat curled around Musichetta, “and it’s New Year’s. What did you expect?”
(It has been three years since Enjolras last attended the New Year's Eve party at the Musain, and he doesn't know what's brought him here tonight, but he does know one thing: someone is missing from the festivities.)

“Wake up,” he says, as gently as he can. “If you must sleep it off then you must, but not here. The back room will be closed soon.”
