And Sam turns to walk away. Colby's fingers twitch, hands wanting to curl towards the other man, to reach out. The blond steps through the broken window, feet carefully avoiding the broken glass, and he fades away into the stark sunlight.
For a second, his hair lit up so bright, and instead of a bloodstained ransacked storefront in the end of the world—Colby saw a bright young Sam with sun kissed skin trying to sneak his way out of an abandoned place, like they used to do.
Like they’re just filming a video. Like the world never ended at all.

An email at the top of his inbox catches his eye, something about a coupon from that one shop they’ve been purchasing from recently. Normally he wouldn't look at promotions, but he opens it up anyway.
On one of the email’s banners, something catches his eye. It’s a padlock, but with a digital screen on it, next to it is a pair of handcuffs that look identical to the ones they just used. Sam squints at the screen. Something about… enhancing play.
Timer locks…?
Hmm.
Sam glances down at the man on his chest, fingers still idly brushing against the small indents in his wrist. He traces the pretty marks with his eyes.

Sometimes, it’s the small things.
Like a crystallizing snowflake on a windshield, with the soft laughter from someone with skin as soft as fresh snow. Or the smell of freshly baked cookies, right out of the oven, with the hint of burnt and a pat on the shoulder. Or the tug of a sweater and an enthusiastic crinkle of blue eyes.
For Colby, they must have been really small.

It was in his very own blood, after all, his DNA making him into a natural leader, who knew exactly what to do during any moment.
Except for the fact that Colby had never fit into these usual stereotypes of an Alpha.

The amount of tabs he had open couldn’t be possibly any good for his poor computer, but he refused to back down. He even watched videos of cancer survivors, writing down every single thing that could’ve possibly helped Colby through the side effects.
Sam was determined to get his best friend through this, no matter what it took. Because he fucking refused to lose Colby — he was convinced that letting him die meant letting a half of him die, too.
