Johnny's leaning against the counter like this is the most normal conversation in the world, expression easy, shoulders loose, completely at ease despite the fact that nothing about this conversation is normal.
Then there's a tiny hesitation. Brief, but noticeable.
He shrugs. "Kinda holding out for someone."
After that Peter's brain hits a wall trying to process the statement and it takes him a second to notice the shift in the room around him, it wasn't silence exactly, but a sudden quieting, like everyone had paused at the same moment to make sure they'd heard that correctly.-or-
Johnny tries to get Peter to realize he loves him Peter only for Peter to immediately go into detective mode to try to figure out who it is.

Three months since that night and this was still what his mind reached for. Not just the hug, or the stupid way Spider-Man had said you mean a lot to me like it was both everything and nothing at the same time. It was all of it.The pineapple pizza, the sunset, the way Johnny had let himself think just for a second, just long enough to get wrecked by it later that maybe it meant something more than it did.

Peter gets it now—what it's about. It's the heady thrill of the Torch angry and out of his depth. There's nothing else like it that doesn't have him risking life and limb; an adrenaline high.
Johnny steps closer, eyes narrowed as Peter gleefully stares him down. "Why does Spider-Man even bother with you?" he sneers. "Can't be because of your winning personality."
"Afraid that's our little secret."
"Yeah, I'll bet—"
When it comes to getting back at Johnny Storm, Peter has to dig his feet in. He somehow still manages to topple over.
