Three people turned at the sound of his approach, and Kimble recognized all three of them. Not Rosetti and Kelly, but rather, Deputy US Marshal Samuel Gerard and two of his assistant deputies, Poole and Newman.
"Dr. Kimble." There was a note of surprise in Gerard's voice. He took a step forward, hand extended. "How are you, doctor?"
"Deputy Gerard." Kimble accepted the other man's hand, finding it larger than his own and very powerful. He shook it firmly, hoping the strength of his own grip would conceal the slight tremor in his fingers. "I'm fine, thank you," he said with careful courtesy. The sight of Gerard, lean, tall, simply but perfectly appareled, with eyes as black as the far side of the moon, was quite unnerving. "Is that your handiwork in there?"

“I just –” Dream continued. “It’s just I really hoped it wouldn’t happen again.” He scoffed then, tone rising in intensity with every breath he took. “It’s not fucking fair. Soulmates are supposed to have this amazing thing getting to experience their happiest memory together when they first touch.”
There was an anger, a hatred, a passion in Dream’s words that George just couldn’t meet. He felt somber as the sentence left his lips: “Us touching for the first time is one of our happiest memories.”
It hadn’t fully clicked until he’d said it out loud.
Or, all Dream and George have ever known is intimacy without touch.

Summary
To her, placing blocks and sending lines felt like skin pressed against skin and sticky sweet lipgloss mixing with saliva and spreading all over. She could imagine hands — bigger than hers? Dream was tall. Broad shoulders. Sometimes, she imagined hands that dwarfed hers. Fingers that stretched the entire way across her stomach as they pushed her shirt up to reveal pale freckled skin. Holding her jaw, brushing the thin skin under her eyes that she brushed makeup over when she was going out and didn’t want everyone to know she pulled long, late hours on her computer.
But other times, the hands were smaller than hers, and she was the one who could circle her fingers all around the other's wrist. It was easy, facelessness. A fun exercise in imagination, and some other lavender emotion that felt a little like want. A little like ranking up in Tetris.

Summary
The numbers tick up, slowly at first, but with speed increasing by the moment like a foot pressed harder and harder against a gas pedal. Views, subscribers, likes, followers. The numbers tick up outside too, article after article detailing the spread, the infected, the little that’s known. COVID and the shutdowns it brings.
The world changes. It doesn’t stop changing and, in the centre of it all, is Dream.
It’s Dream and his shape in the corner of the couch while George scrolls apartment listings, chiming in to remind him there’s no rush but he should maybe have a couple options so you can jump on them right away when everything’s, like, normal again. There’s always an unsung if things are ever normal again. And it’s Dream in the doorway of his room and filling his headphones with laughter and ideas and dumb jokes, filling his chest with warmth and familiarity and comfort. A constant, as reliable as his own shadow.
Or, George moves to America pre-pandemic.

Summary

Until one day George passes out mysteriously and is rushed to the hospital. Turns out his body is rejecting heat suppressants and he needs to stop taking them immediately, no big deal right?
Doctors tell him that he can't live alone while he recovers, so George and his best friend Dream decide to finally go through with their plan to get a couples dorm together, as friends of course.
But when George gets ready to experience his first heat in almost a year they both revisit an old pact from high school, and their friendship quickly starts crossing lines they can't come back from.
This tells the story of George and Dream's long and complicated friendship, and what happens when they think they can casually add physical intimacy to the mix. George might have been missing a lot of feelings Dream's been keeping hidden.
Featuring middle school and high school flashbacks.

Summary
George had gone through the whole journey, the grieving process. From learning about soulmates, to excitedly listening for his phrase as a kid, to becoming bitter about it as a teenager, to despising it as an adult, and finally somewhat making his peace with the fact he wouldn't find his person. He'd compartmentalized. He'd coped. He'd reasoned. He'd told himself he could love other people just as much, he could live without, he could pretend none of it was even a thing in the first place. George didn't need his soulmate.
But now he was in front of him and George couldn't live without.
OR
The first sentence uttered between soulmates is forever imprinted on their arms—it's just unfortunate that George's sentence is the most stupid, common phrase to ever grace the English language. Even if he encounters his soulmate, how is he supposed to recognise them?

After it’s all said and done, they pack up a U-Haul and move back to Florida.
Sapnap stays in California and sends them off with tears in his eyes that he’ll always claim was just the smoggy air getting to him. Dream hugs him one last time, and then once more for good measure as George gets into the passenger seat.
He'll miss him, miss LA, but they’re retired now and Los Angeles has just never scratched the itch of home like Florida always had.
