Zoey blinks once, twice, then grins wide and feral. “Rumi. It’s a club full of socially anxious introverts with elaborate communication strategies and colour-coded consent charts. You will be the coolest person there by default.”
Rumi laughs—the real kind, not the polite music-industry version—and Zoey’s grin widens in satisfaction like she’s just cleared a boss level.

The honmoon glows golden underneath her feet. She can see the ripples spread up along the walls, carefully ebbing toward her. It stings when the honmoon wraps itself around her entire body, and Rumi can only watch as she’s engulfed by the light, staring at herself, unable to turn away. It feels like an embrace, but it’s cold and wrong, and it makes her tremble even harder, because the honmoon has never felt like that. Not to her.
Quietly, in the very back of her mind, a voice says, “This is what you asked for.”
