Luis only smirked back, unfazed. “Drop the act, Max. You and I both know those moves worked on you just fine. No one’s buying the cold shoulder.”
“Oh, so the big boy can speak now?” Max pointed a finger off toward the distant hills. “What do they feed you up on that mountain, Madrigal? Extra hay?”
Luis scoffed at his ex-boyfriend. God, it was pathetic how much he still missed him. “Why don’t you just keep it moving, Hatter?” He stepped directly into Max’s space, leaning down so his breath brushed Max’s cheek. “I’m sure this prep has plenty of chaos waiting for you to cause, right, Maxie?”

Max Hatter carried earbuds everywhere he went. And if he didn’t have them, he either had his headphones, or earplugs would do in a pinch.
Most of the HKs assumed he just preferred to listen to music, or used them as tools to ignore them.
Very few people actually knew the truth.
But it seemed that not all HKs were awful, something Max found out after a particularly bad day.

He didn't move his hand. Instead, he leaned in just a fraction closer, his gaze dropping briefly to Max’s mouth before snapping back to his eyes.
The air between them turned electric, stealing the air right out of Max’s lungs. Sitting flush against Luis, he was acutely aware of how perfectly they fit together. Max’s pulse raced at a dizzying speed, a dangerous, beautiful heat blooming in his chest that he could no longer deny as hatred. He loved this. He loved him.

Summary
After the Kurta’s are massacred Chrollo finds one young omega that has somehow survived and killed a member of his troupe. He debates killing the boy but after discovering they are soulmates he is unable to.
Kurapika lives his days out seeking vengeance from who takes care of him. Desperate to kill but without the skill set to do so. Chrollo insist if he kills him Kurapika will perish as well, as is the fate of soulmates. Kurapika is willing to make that sacrifice.
