Azriel finds in Gwyn the companionship he'd been lacking his entire life, a friend, someone who truly sees him, and not the monster, the mystery, the tool. Navigating his feelings, he must discover who he is and what he truly wants. He believed that wanting Elain was only natural, and right, but Elain might even agree with him that their proximity might've been a mistake. She wants to see more of the world, wants to find out the purpose of being alive in an immortal body, even if she was attached to someone she barely knew.
All the while, the Inner Cyrcle must work to protect Velaris and their family from the threats that lurk around. -

Gwyn scribbles furiously on a notepad, pen in one hand and cookie in another, and startles when suddenly the doors to the veranda open and in steps a soaking wet Shadowsinger.
For a moment, Gwyn just stares at him – the damp hair that falls across his forehead, those dark eyes that she can’t even begin to read. He stares back, and then, as if snapping out of a trance, Gwyn blinks and sets her cookie down, pulling the scattered books closer toward her.
“Sorry,” Gwyn breathes. “I’m always doing this.”
“Always doing what?” he asks mildly, still staring at her with that piercing gaze that feels as sharp as the dagger on his belt.

Things have been quiet inside and outside of the Night Court. A little too quiet, maybe. In the absence of any external stressors, everyone's personal struggles are becoming more and more evident.
Gwyn has been struggling to move forward with her life. Her friendship with Azriel has become even stronger, although her romantic feelings towards him are starting to get in the way of that friendship. His secret relationship with Elain is just another complication on top of an already confusing situation.
