"And then, like, fuck, man, you can't die not knowing what your soul mark says, so I got down and looked and laughed so hard I almost broke a fucking rib."
"I was starving when I got mine," Steve says. And he doesn't mean to. He shouldn't have. Wishes he didn't. He shrugs anyway because he's already here. "Just lonely or something."
"You have yours?"
"Uhhuh, had it for forever."
"No shit, man?"
"Whatever," Steve says.

Summary
Progress isn't linear, but he's over a big hurdle that held him back for a long time. Being seen by Eddie had felt particularly vulnerable because he wasn't used to be seen at all, and didn't know what it meant to be here and be breathing. Running hadn't worked the way he thought it might—all of Eddie's softness had worn him down in a way that made him want to stay.
It's the staying and being that feels particularly hard, these days.

"Am I your errand boy now?" He tries to sound annoyed and fails miserably, he's sure. Everyone in this room knows he'd do anything Joyce Byers told him to and he'd do it with a smile, for free, while being actively tortured.
"Sure are, Dingus!" Robin quips. She's damn-near starfished across the loveseat and there's a smudge of dirt on her cheek. Where the hell did they go today?
Joyce smiles into her mug and hums, a much softer energy than what Robin brings into the space.
"Yes, Steve, I think it would be really helpful if you started running errands for the shop. Robin's apprenticeship is starting to pick up and I need her to be more hands on, so I can't have her running them the way she has been. I figured you've got some time on your hands now, anyway?"
