It’s been months since Harry left. Months since the disaster of his mission, the absolute abject failure of his eradication of the human race. Months since he said goodbye to Asta, with at least the knowledge that he no longer had to look at his failures, his greatest one he suspects is somehow her.
It’s been almost exactly the same amount of months since he turned his ship back around to drop Max off—the little shitstack—and retrieve his delicious pizzas. At that point he was hungry again so cooked one of the pizzas and ate it, sat on his sofa in his cabin. He felt that there was no point in beginning a long journey tired, so he had gone to bed. This was months ago, as has been established.
It’s been months since Harry decided to stay.

Harry is drumming his fingers against the table in the small hours of the night, thinking. He has not slept yet, has not even tried, too many things skittering through his brain like demonic mice. First, there is the complication of understanding his friendship with D’Arcy. Second, Asta meeting her shitbag mother, and how Asta won't let him kill her no matter how badly he wants to. Then there's the Greys, and the small matter of them trying to destroy the planet and every human along with it. Which admittedly, does mean killing Mary-Ellen, but also Asta.
It's been a very trying day.

For the first hour, Harry tries—mostly successfully—not to look at Asta. Even when he has to speak to her because of work, he manages to look vaguely around her, calculating how much eye contact he can reasonably avoid without it being suspicious.
By the third hour, Harry thinks he’s mastered it. Their shared looks are perfunctory, but not withholding. The concentration it takes to keep up this charade is admittedly taxing, but in face of the alternative (actually looking at Asta and being bombarded with echos of the way she looks after kissing him, after he’s brought her to climax multiple times, after she’s seated herself on him and—)?
Harry had not felt this way after sex with Isabelle. It is becoming a problem.
