Weeks ago, not long after he first awoke, the name 'Annabeth' burst into his mind like the first flower of spring. Accompanied with it was the flash of a pair of eyes, calculating yet warm, eyes that seemed to be looking deep into the tresses of his soul as if it were as familiar as its own. As if they'd roamed through his mind many times before, knew every path and thought and memory and stared back at him with such an understanding of his very being that initially, he'd been taken aback, and even a little wounded. How did this stranger, this 'Annabeth' seem to know more about him than he he knew of himself right now, and yet he couldn't recall anything about her?

Summary
At the end of the Battle of Manhattan, Percy Jackson feels too afraid to admit his feelings for his best friend, Annabeth Chase. Maybe they could've gone on like that for a bit longer, but then he goes missing.
Percy is alone in New Rome with the name Annabeth swimming around in his head and is trying to figure out who she is to him. Meanwhile, Annabeth is smart enough to know that breaking down like this over a friend disappearing might mean her repressed feelings are stronger than she thought.

Each chapter takes place in a different book, from the end of The Last Olympian to The House of Hades. A rewrite of what could've happened if they never brought up the courage to tell each other how they felt and the pain they feel having to skirt around their feelings in yet another life threatening situation.

Piper Mclean didn't know if it was a side effect from being the Daughter of Aphrodite, but all her life she had felt like she could sense the threads that connected people.
She had felt it whilst witnessing innocent schoolyard crushes at boarding school, she could feel a one-sided pull from her father that stretched out into nowhere, and she could feel a tentative tug pulling her and Jason towards each other. When she met Annabeth and witnessed the despair that seemed to coat her every move from being parted from him, she assumed their love was the latter. Having never met Percy she could already tell from legendary stories that he clearly desperately loved her.
But now, seeing them stare at each other across the Pantheon, to call the bond between Annabeth Chase and Percy Jackson a thread seemed an offence.
