Svetlana leans forward, propping her elbow on her crossed knees and perching her chin on her hand. She pins Shane with a knowing look, brow quirking up. "You've been avoiding me today. This is the first time you've sat down in hours."
Shane scrapes at the bottom of the bowl. "I've been busy."
"You've kept yourself busy."
Shane slips the spoon into his mouth, licking off the last hint of blackberries. He isn't sure how to reply to that, so he doesn't.

Hayden keeps mindlessly scrolling Instagram—a pantomime of paying attention, not really taking in anything that’s passing across his screen. Mind racing as a series of realizations wash over him.
