It wasn't a bad feeling, exactly. Steve just had urges he couldn't get rid of, and they worried him more and more. They went against his usual alpha instincts, new impulses he hadn't even realized were possible until now.

Avery took a moment to catch his breath. He gently tugged on Derek's hand, guiding him to the soft, inviting grass nearby. As they settled down, Avery's slime body spread slightly, creating a comfortable cushion beneath them. He looked into Derek's eyes, silently inviting Derek to come closer.
Derek complied, his weight sinking into the earth next to Avery. The two of them fit together effortlessly. Avery wrapped his arms around Derek, pulling him in. They both exhaled in unison as they were overwhelmed with a drug-like happiness.
In that moment, it was just Avery and Derek.
“So…then…” Avery didn’t know where to start.
“Go on.” Derek encouraged.
“Do you love me, Derek?” Avery asked shyly.
Derek was amused by the question. His hand found Avery’s, and he squeezed it lovingly.
“I wouldn’t have made this world for you if I didn’t, Avery…”
OR
An after story with a corrupted D3rlord3 and a touch-starved Avery. The two find each other and try to replicate a life they could've had together in the King's domain.

He hoped so much he'd say yes.A silence too loud for Avery began and it seemed like it would never end until a voice finally broke it. "You.. wouldn't mind that?"
Avery being Avery, spoke out too fast without thinking and replied back. "I would beg you to wea—", he immediately covered his mouth with both of his palm and sat in a way his legs covered his face from Derek's.

Summary
Derek Hutchins wakes up after being in a coma for months. He's alive, so is the King, and they both shouldn't be.
As soon as he finds confirmation that the King in Yellow still exists within his mind, -a haunting, lurking presence, ready to take over at any point- Derek forms a plan. He knows what he must do - it won't be easy, it'll hurt people, he'll lose his second chance at life, but it's the only option he has. If he wants to keep the World safe; to keep the people he loves safe, he has to.
But fate is funny, because just as Derek is about to take his life, Avery finds him again.
And for a short while, Derek's life continues.
