After Eddie convinces him to give speed-dating a try, Buck finds a match that he never expected.
The other chair at his little table drags across the floor as someone pulls it out. Buck swallows, close to nervous, and tries to put on his friendliest smile without dipping immediately into flirtation.
"Hi," he says, "I'm…" He trails off as he glances up and gets his first good look over at the person in the seat across from him. It's not the cute, fair-skinned blonde with the eyebrow ring, or the tall woman with the dark lipstick and shiny pants. It's not any of the women he'd casually noticed milling about before the event started. In fact, it's not a woman at all.
"Hi," the man says, giving him a crooked smile, his eyes bright and teasing. Buck flushes.

Buck’s first shift back at the 118 after the lawsuit was nothing like he’d imagined and Buck wasn't sure how he'd bridge the sudden distance between him and his team. But the disappointment of their brush-off was eclipsed when he came home from that first shift to find an old flame waiting on his doorstep with a choice that was really no choice at all. “Tommy.” His fingers move from Sal’s cheek to his mouth, his thumb brushing Sal’s fang. “Huh.”
“Let me,” Sal begs. He can't watch the life under him slip away. It's like a voice at the back of his head is screaming for him to just rip open his own vein and let the change take hold. “I'm Sal.”
Tommy draws in a pained breath, cries out, and tears leak from his eyes. Sal waits, reaches up to squeeze his hand.
“I can help,” he repeats softly.
And Tommy blinks at him and nods.
