“I’m sorry,” Shane whispers against Ilya’s hair. “I’m so, so sorry. I didn’t—”
Shane cuts himself off with a faint stutter in his breath that Ilya feels in his own chest.
“Please,” Ilya begs, but he isn’t sure what he is even asking for.
He wants Shane to leave. He wants Shane to stay. He wants Shane to hold him and never let go.
Ilya feels Shane’s fingers fist in his curls, holding tight as if Ilya could ever bring himself to pull away.
Shane doesn’t know that Ilya could never, that he cannot fathom turning his back to take even one step away from him.
All he can do is push Shane away, make him walk first, and pick up the pieces left behind.
Or an alternative to that fight from the long game, but instead of Shane leaving as Ilya asks, they actually talk it out

That maybe Shane Hollander of the Voyagers really was his full name. That Shane Hollander of the Centaurs might not exist.
He can’t say that. He can’t ruin everything. He can’t dim the shine in Ilya’s eyes, the bounce in his step, the color in his cheeks he didn’t have the last few years.
Ilya sacrificed hockey for their relationship for two years, played on a crappy team and watched Shane win. It’s Shane’s turn to sacrifice, to figure out how to make this work and let Ilya lead this time.

“Is there a reason you’re calling me?” Shane asks now, voice echoey over the phone. “Or is this part of your strategy to win our argument?”
Ilya swallows hard. “Constantinople,” he says.

Summary
Kang Seongjun and Park Gyujin live two entirely separate lives. Though they attend the same university, they hardly see each other unless at a party.
Which happens few and far in between. They talk, catch up, make out. Then, they go back to their personal lives without seeing each other.
All of this has been going fine. For three years, Seongjun could stand attending the same university as Gyujin and only seeing him a few times—until he sees Gyujin with someone who is not him.
